Google – Stockholm HQ wayfinding & signage

Exhibition & Signage

Practical Playfullness

We were selected to develop a wayfinding strategy/system (and branded environment) for Google’s Stockholm HQ. Here, each meeting is booked on a minute basis. Streams of international visitors pass every day and employees need to find the right room on the spot. At Google, there is no time to get lost in the corridors.

So as a starting point for our wayfinding strategy we asked ourself a question;

Can we get people to find a meeting room in a building, without a map or directions
– just by knowing the room's name?

To keep a common thread through all the signage, we only used Roboto as a font.
But by using a large variety of materials and applications, we were still able to create a dynamic and varied sign system.

An interchangeable modular sign system was created so part of signs could be swapped if new rooms/amenities where added.

Larger amenities like food court, lounges etc had custom made signage based on their concepts and were built to interact with the environment.

All meeting rooms (60+) had their own name and concept based on Swedish habits, places, people, sayings, quirks etc. All had a sign that literally interpreted the name to help people find it, while the interior could have a more creative interpretation.
